The last few days have continued to be filled with creative play, challenges and great news. Let me share the background behind the piece featured in the images above, which covers the “excite” part of today’s post.
SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates), of which I am a Western Canadian Co-Rep, organizes an annual benefit auction. I have participated for three consecutive years and 2012 will not be different. On Thursday I shared with you how I start new work. Well, “Bitterblue” is coming along nicely but with this specific method of piecing using my hand-dyed fabrics I felt I was generating a lot of waste… I can hear you now: There is always another piece of fabric in the stash – but I am a bit more conservative in my approach and decided to just gather the cut offs in a little pile. Believe it or not – the fabrics called out to me and I decided to start a 12″ piece which ultimately ended up as my contribution for the 2012 SAQA Benefit Auction (to take place in September). Since I was working with little pieces I decided to cut them even smaller and create fabric confetti. Fusing the confetti to Steam-A-Seam stabilized them. A piece of mostly orange commercial quilting cotton became the foundation and an overlay of tulle quilted with metallic threads completed Maelstrom. Maelstrom is on its way to the collection point in Santa Fe as I am typing this entry. Images will be uploaded to the SAQA website at a later date. You are getting a sneak peek and may even want to try this method. The images are just like a workshop demo and if you are so inclined: Send me images of what you create with fabric confetti! I would love to share some of your creations on this blog!
Let’s move on to the “honor” part of today’s blog entry. I received word this week that the preparations for Quilt Expo to feature those nominated for “Most Inspiring Quilt Teacher for 2011″ are going strong.
Coming up soon on March 7th-10th there is going to be a very special online event that you are not going to want to miss.
Willow Bend Creations Online Quilt Expos is hosting the “Inspired To Quilt” Online Quilt Expo. This event will bring all of the sights, sounds and excitement of a live quilt show right into your home via your computer. (This is not an exaggeration – When you enter the website you feel as if you are at a real expo!)
And guess what…? I’m going to be one of the featured presentations. I was nominated as the “Most Inspiring Quilt Instructor Of 2011″ by some of you.
I am very honored and alongside of saying “Thank You” I would really appreciate your support by coming out and voting for me.
This is going to be a lot of fun and it’s free for anyone to attend. So be sure to register by clicking on the link below and tell all of your friends so they don’t miss out on the fun!
