It has been a very busy month already. I am sharing with you the latest piece for my solo exhibition in June titled “Give Me Time Forever II”. I am very happy with the way it turned out. When I first selected the hand-dyed fabric and began to apply oil sticks I wasn’t too sure if I was achieving enough contrast. But once I added metallic threads to provide definition to the circles I could see the potential. With the soaring eagle silhouettes the piece came together just as I had envisioned it in my original sketches. I will upload it to the gallery on the website soon – but you are getting the first glance!
Speaking of the first glance, or better “view”… I received word that my promotional video for the Most Inspiring Quilt Teacher of 2011 is up on uTube now. Those of you following my blog for a while might remember January 12th when I shared that I was getting ready for an online interview from my studio. I wasn’t too sure how it was going to work out at the time. With our satellite connection unpredictability is the norm. Also, I had never taken part in an interview of this kind before. After viewing the promotional video my nervousness is gone and I anticipate a great event alongside the other nominees. Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think!
Love it……nice warm swirling quality- makes me think of summer and updrafts!

I am glad I still inspire you, Dianne! When I run out of ideas, enthusiasm and drive I will shut down this blog and quit teaching!

Loralei, the only oil sticks to use on fabric are made by Markal (also sometimes marketed as Shiva). Conventional oil sticks contain linseed oil which will separate and leave an unsightly halo. They may also eventually lead to a brake down of the fabric. Hope this helps!
