It’ s official: After the disappointing news that Kenderdine Campus Emma Lake was closed as of November 15th I made a split second decision, sent an email to Shekinah Retreat Center, and received a phone call after two hours with a positive response. The center is excited and awaiting us with great anticipation – Art Quilt Campus 2013 is set to go ahead!
If you are concerned that I made a rash decision – worry no more! What is a possible venue without a careful investigation? Colin and I took the time on Monday to venture three hours north. It was a sunny day, and the roads were clear of ice and snow. Jesse, the acting executive director at Shekinah showed us around the Timberframe Lodge, an impressive building with bright light streaming from three large walls of windows into the area that will constitute the main workspace. We can set up a dye station on the outside where two water outlets and easy access to the lower level bathrooms will make adding color to fabric a breeze!
Meals will be taken at the far end of the Great Hall, prepared in the kitchen adjacent to the dining area just for our group. Dorm style rooms are bright, clean and very accessible from the workspace. Bathroom facilities will be shared, but with a small group long line-ups are not anticipated.
The images in today’s slideshow are a combination of pictures I took and those from the Shekinah Website (permission was granted). I wanted to show you what the venue looks like, and let’s face it – trees in full leaf are much more attractive than bare branches and a blanket of snow…
