Local Colour
Saturday, April 20, 2013 – Sunday, June 23, 2013
KITCHENER, ONTARIO, CANADA: Homer Watson House & Gallery is proud to present The Grand National Quilt Show, an invitational Canada-wide quilt exhibition that celebrates both tradition and innovation, exemplifying the fine art and craft of the Canadian quilter today.
Titled Local Colour, this year’s show is organized by the Grand National Committee in collaboration with Joseph Schneider Haus and Homer Watson House & Gallery. Curated by Susan Burke, a selection of over fifty works, representing artists from across Canada, explore the theme Local Colour. Whether through familiar landscape, festival, event, a colourful personality or dramatic natural phenomenon, artists were given license to memorialize their interpretation of the theme into their quilt-artists’ practice. Regarded for its diversity of creative expression, this year’s exhibition invites viewers to join in celebrating the diverse talents of the nation-wide survey that enlightens audiences to the creativity and sometimes, unexpected ways in which contemporary quilters approach their medium.
Members of the public are invited to attend the opening reception on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 2 – 4 PM.
In addition, we invite you to attend our Artist Talks on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 1 – 3 PM and Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 1 – 3 PM.

The Homer Watson House & Gallery is the homestead of Homer Watson, Canada’s first noted landscape artist (1855-1936). In 1980 the house and surrounding three-acre property were designated under the Ontario Heritage Act as being of architectural and historic significance.
