Counting Down The Hours…

…till my Open Studio Event and student exhibition. The studio space has been rearranged into a gallery. Colin built additional display walls for hanging students’ work last week, and with all tables set up excitement is beginning to build.

I spent Tuesday pricing various items: Small framed art work for sale, books from my library I am letting go (several of them are out of print!), PDF fabric (bolts and meter cuts) and various threads.

The primary focus is once again on student work and invited artists. The weather report looks variable but I am hopeful that year four of the Open Studio Event will bring sunshine and gentle breezes.

With the help of two design students who delivered their art work yesterday, the studio was transformed from blank walls to displays that demand attention (I know, I know – you want to see pictures, but you will have to be patient!…) The work looks amazing and exhibits just how hard everyone has worked during the winter months and beyond. The last six months went by so quickly, but when I look at the temporary gallery in the studio I just know that everyone who contributed to the show has learned a great deal.

While most of my attention went into the studio over the past week, activities in the house and yard have also increased. The walls and horizontal spaces in the living room are bare, awaiting the fused glass Glenda is going to lay out on Friday morning. The covered deck is ready for Bill to set up and display his framed photographs. Colin has built new planters to line the drive way and provide more privacy for the meditation spiral.

I started to bake on Tuesday, and my two trusty helpers that spent some time with me yesterday approved of the Butter Cake they sampled as part of a quick lunch. Grating carrots for a gluten-free carrot cake started it all. Dipping apricots into melted chocolate was a great way to slow down and organize my thoughts for the marathon baking session that takes place today. More visitors are expected than last year thanks to more publicity. As a result I have increased refreshments and food supplies.

Make sure to drop by if you live within driving distance. The details on how to find us were published in this post on June 13th. Questions? Email me directly at anna@annahergert.com

  1. Wow, lots of work and I’m sure it will be a success. Wish I could be there to be inspired. Looking forward to seeing the photos with all the pieces hanging up.

  2. Hi Anna…will see you on Friday. Will make every effort NOT to get there for breakfast! I might have call you if I get lost. Seeing as how I’m driving down with Adrian this year instead of Mary, I think the likelihood of this is quite good. I’m looking forward to seeing all the work from your students as well as the other goodies you will have on display. See you then..donna
