July started with a day of volunteering at Park Art, an annual local event that has been an institution in Moose Jaw for more than 30 years. A steady stream of visitors entered the grounds despite the nearly + 30 C temperatures. It looks like Mother Nature is making up for the long, cold winter. We are not complaining – we are enjoying every bead of sweat…
Speaking of sweat: I spent the yesterday my hot (temperature hot!) studio. A mid-morning phone call brought an invitation to a baby shower… this coming Sunday. I have been working on a special Kantha blanket for the baby but with every stitch made by hand my 30 + hour efforts are far from noteworthy. A “bridge gift” was needed. Instead of buying something generic I decided to raid my stash. An eye catching meter cut I purchased about three years ago caught my attention. I sandwiched and backed it with a yard of gold turban cloth. After that I gave my Janome Horizon 7700 a true workout. Nine straight hours of quilting without any problems – other than the heat – it was time to do the happy dance! Everything came together well and efficiently. I will post pictures after I have presented the gift to our friends… I might even capture a picture of her opening the quilt on Sunday.
What’s next? This week has another day of volunteering for the local Art Guild on the agenda, and whenever I can I will venture into the hot studio to work on the piece I am designing and assembling for a book project I was invited to participate in. And then there is always the Kantha blanket that needs a lot more stitching. Lots to do and so little time – Enjoy summer and check back next Monday!
