The time is finally here and my class near Sulmona in the center of Abruzzo is in progress. Day one was filled with a glorious sunrise over the mountains, the early morning light reflecting off the pond in the garden and the studio ready for action.
We are staying in a wonderful country setting with all the amend dies. Locanda dell Asino d’Oro is a comfortable hotel where the donkeys wake you in the morning with their call. The studio is a short walk from the main building which provides completes privacy.
We began the first day with a hearty breakfast followed by an excursion to town for photography. We explored the streets, captured images of the ancient viaduct, visited churches and e museum.
Sulmona is famous for its Confetti, sugar coated almonds, often colored and assembled into edible flower arrangements.
The character of the town is well worth capturing. Architectural features are everywhere and the laid back pace is perfect after a hectic week in Rome.
We returned to the workshop venue to enjoy lunch and then gathered in the studio for our first design exploration. Soon everyone was fully immersed in reviewing their images from the morning. Paper and pencils were pulled and the silence of concentration filled the workspace.
With the initial abstraction exercises covered day was a success. The buzz was full of excitement and ideas were discussed as we gathered for the daily happy hour and dinner. What a great day with a motivated group of textile artists… Can’t wait to see what develops during day 2….

It’s good to hear your thoughts and see your images. What fun to see those amusing candy-almond confections — a brilliant bold smoothness to those sugared surfaces. Keep on bloggin’.

Thanks for checking in with a comment, Carol. We are enjoying a very special time here in Abruzzo as you can tell. Will pass on the greetings. I am looking forward to having you in class during the winter. Wish I could bring home some of this fabulous weather. It would make winter in SK a little easier to survive…

Oh Anna: What a sublime location. You will not want to return to Sask and the thought of cold and snow filled days. Altho we do have a unique landscape that goes on forever and ever. Sorry to remind you of the future back here.
Love the pics so very much. Do you ever think of assembling a book of these wonderful photos. I am sure that it would be eye candy for the less fortunate than you and Colin on all of your forays everywhere.
Have fun with the class and I am sure that you will be meeting some interesting characters in the group. Leona
