February 21st, 2014 marks the final entry deadline for “Prairies,” the Focus on Fibre Arts Association juried competition for 2014. Click here for a link to the entry form and detailed information.
Focus on Fibre Arts Association was founded in Edmonton, Alberta in 1998 to provide an opportunity for fibre artists to test their ability and progress in a chosen field, receive feedback from respected teachers/ judges and to exhibit their art in public. Read more on their website, which provides great background information and may just give you that last minute gently push to enter a piece or two before the week is over.
This Canadian organization is celebrating 15 years. The call for entry is open to anyone working in fibre anywhere in the world! I know this post is cutting it a little fine but I know that the organizers are hoping for the best turn out ever! The exhibition venues are secured, prize money is in the bank and waiting to be awarded and best of all: The jurors and judges selected to pick the best entries once again.
The Prairie theme is all-encompassing. I am willing to bet that when you read the single word “Prairie” images entered your mind immediately. Vast fields, endless skies, seasonal changes, grain elevators, wind mills, lone farm house yards, combine brigades during harvest, a macro image of ripe grain, wild flowers and weeds in the ditch – these images are limitless, and if you live on the prairie your work is certain to be influenced in a variety of ways.
It is not necessary to work in a representational fashion. Abstract or non-representational entries are also strongly encouraged. It’s all in the statement. A few well chosen words will support your work. Original pieces, work started in workshops and even entries created from patterns are welcome.
What are you waiting fro? Have a look around your studio and get your images ready to enter! Here is that link again for the entry form. Show what you are made of and spread your wings! This is a great opportunity to stretch your creative muscle – jump over your own shadow and take the next step: Enter this juried show! Best of luck to everyone. Can’t wait to see this year’s show.
I really wish I had known about this sooner. I am working on a prairie piece right now but I can’t see having it finished by the end of the week. Great information though. Always good to know what is happening.

Sorry for the lateness in the post – you realize that the entire piece does not have to be complete for you to send in images and a detail shot… Give it some thought and evaluate.

Didn’t realize that. Did I read it right that pieces go to Edmonton?

Deb, yes the work goes to Edmonton – please click on the links as all the info will be provided there! You have to submit images first for the jury – the work is not due (if you get accepted) till a late date. I have nothing to do with this call for entry – just wanted to spread the news and info. Best of luck.
