Time to share a press release:
From July 3 to 6, 2014, Drumheller will be hosting the largest Quilt show and festival in it’s history! The theme of our festival is “Truly Canadian” – What Canada means to me. We are hoping to draw visitors from Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, as well as the adjacent States. During this 4-day festival we will be having the following events:
* July 1st will have the Quilting in the Badlands volunteer committee on a float during the Canada Day parade. This annual event is huge in Drumheller, with carnival attractions, food and much more;
* July 3rd will have the installation of an adjudicated quilt show – the only one in Canada during July! We’ll have two qualified judges, Dawn Hunt, certified quilt appraiser and Anna Hergert, a CQA/ACC certified judge, evaluating up to 400 submissions for prizes and ribbons. Categories are: Large/Bed sized Quilt, Small/Wall Hanging Quilt, Innovative, and Wearable Art. There will also be prizes for the Best in Show and People’s Choice.
There will be an Ice Cream Social/Mixer where Dawn will speak about the value of quilting and introduce the Quilt Study Society and their projects.
* On Friday, July 4th, the judging will conclude and be announced at the Gala fundraising event – ‘Stitches’. The Drumheller Area Health Foundation, in partnership with the David Thompson Health Trust, will be hosting ‘Stitches’ to raise funds for the purchase of these monitors, which come with an estimated price tag of $60,000 for the pair. These monitors will really make a difference to our youngest members of the community born at the Drumheller Health Centre. Cocktails start at 5:30pm. There will be a Beef Dinner with all the trimmings, Music by Cathy Miller, the Singing Quilter then more music and dancing until the wee hours.
* On Saturday – July 5th, there will be an outdoor quilt show and quilt sale. This is the fourth outdoor quilt show we’ve had in Drumheller and it’s been a real success each time. This time we expect it to be bigger than ever and have added the consigned quilts to help raise more money for the Drumheller Health Centre.
During the day there will be a barbeque, vendor and farmer’s market and much more.
During the 4 days of the festival, we will be offering a variety of workshops and lectures by well-known quilting personalities. More information may be found at our website and updates are on our Facebook page . We’ll be wrapping up on July 6th but will continue with workshops that day.
We hope to be able to raise $40,000 to purchase the Maternal/Infant monitors for the Drumheller Health Centre through sponsorship, admissions, and consignment sales. $20,000 has already been raised for these items to date.
