Seeing red…

…or, what to do when one has limited fabric on hand.

A few years ago I picked up rayon Batiks while visiting a quilt show. I particularly fell in love with one yard of salt-dyed red. It has been fondled, contemplated and returned to the stash several times. And then inspiration struck suddenly last week: I significantly altered a pattern to create this simple, loose-fitting summer top with special shoulder detailing.

And then there was last October’s impulse buy of half a meter of tulle-backed rosette fabric… a true indulgence without a clear plan. Inspiration struck on Thursday. Our grand-daughter turned five this weekend and I suddenly had an idea but wasn’t quite sure if I had enough fabric. With another pattern altered I assembled this little number…

…complete with matching purse and hair band. I picked up a commercial white t-shirt with flared short sleeves and added a little trim using the last of the fabric around the neckline. This little ensemble came together in no time at all and put me in a great mood.

It has been a busy and eventful couple of weeks and sewing has been a great distraction. I was attacked by a dog over the long weekend which has been very traumatic. I had to visit the emergency for an ultrasound of the bite and a tetanus shot last week Sunday. Since then I have struggled with the side effects of the tetanus shot and nightmares replaying the dog attack.

Our house continues to be for sale. We have reduced the price again. The direct link to pictures can be found in my previous blog post. Please share with friends and family if you think they may be interested!

Thanks for checking in today! Wishing you all a fabulous week! Happy creating.

Love the red top. Wish I could wear that colour.
So sorry to hear about the dog bite. I was bitten and scratched by our recently adopted cat several weeks ago and am still bruised. She has settled down now and won’t be getting more catnip.

I admire your sewing skills. Something that defeated me in my teens and nothing has changed. Love the reds, you and your grand daughter will be quite the pair. So scary being attacked by a dog. Do take care.

Anna, I am so shocked and saddened to hear about the dog attack. How awful for you. Your red rayon pieces are delightful, however my mind keeps racing back to the attack. Be well my friend.

  4. I always thought your red coat looked so good on you Anna so this lovely top will be perfect. I like red too! You have made a very complete little girl’s outfit, she’ll love it.

Sorry to hear about the dog attack, this will take time to get over. I have a real fear of dogs unless I know them.

Yikes, a dog bite! When I was 10 I was bitten and had to have rabies shots. To this day I hate dogs! It I’d hard, my granddaughter has a therapy dog and it can sense my fear. Love your red top! Good luck.

Anna, what great outfits you have stitched! Your grand daughter’s is so cute!!! She will be so happy to wear it! And your top looks so comfy.

Good luck with the sale. I have shared it several times on Facebook but don’t know of anyone who is looking for such a great spot.

So sorry for your dog issue! So painful, both mentally and physically. Get well soon!
