Indigo is found in virtually every culture throughout the ages. It remains one of the most versatile and intriguing dyes. Journey along to explore traditional techniques practiced to this day in areas of Africa and Japan. Participants will create an Indigo dye vat, and with the help of everyday supplies transform ordinary cotton fabric into pieces of art.

The goal of this introductory workshop will be the exploration of ancient stitch resist and wrapping techniques from Japan to achieve pattern, texture and color on fabrics. Each participant will create a library of samples for future reference and personal exploration. The dye used for this class will be Procion MX. (This class requires hand-stitching!)

CLASS SIZE: 12 STUDENTS
DURATION: 3 DAYS / 18 HOURS
This intensive workshop will introduce the participant to the individual components constituting art cloth. Art cloth is yardage that has been put through a variety of processes, which includes all or some of the following: dyeing, resist with stitch and paste, over-dyeing, printing, discharge, foiling and painting. The end result is yardage that may be incorporated into art quilts, one of-a-kind garments, shawls and banners.
No previous experience in any of the above mentioned techniques necessary! Participants with previous experience welcome! Build on what you learned in the past!!!!
Participants will develop a portfolio of samples and a length of decorated cloth.

Learn basic color principles and create richly colored cloth for your one-of-a-kind quilts.
This workshop covers a variety of low-immersion dye techniques, including color gradation and multi-color layering, yielding many wonderful additions to your fabric stash.
